Forbidden Love
The free Dutch newspaper Sp!ts has a feature where they ask readers to send in their Christmas messages; not only their greetings, but also messages they wish to share with a greater audience. Today, there was one that caught my eye:

We were forced to end our relationship, afraid that we one day would be found out by one of my family members. You, a boy of Dutch-Jewish descent and me, a girl of Moroccan origin with Islamic beliefs.
I have never before felt so happy as I did together with you. Sadly, it was only for a short while, I could never be the girlfriend that could spend the weekends with you, or go out together with you without constantly turning to see if there is anyone that knows us close-by. I mourn it terribly, but it wasn’t to be - perhaps in another life.
I love you with all my heart; but nevertheless I wish you and your current girlfriend a lot of luck together.
